Actively encourage reading the READ ME
As always, hackers should be encouraged to Read The Fine Manual. If an unidentified scroll is labeled as "READ ME" then the first reading it should generally be A Good Thing. In practice, this patch simply effects the outcome of reading an unidentified scroll with the READ ME lable if that type happens to be the one of the four really bad scrolls (Destroy Armor, Amnesia, Fire, or Punishment) unless the scroll is cursed, or if the reader is confused or hallucinating. Game Balance: small early game advantage Recklessly reading unidentified scrolls is slightly less dangerous for some games. Could be mitigated by always nullifying the impact of reading an unidentified READ ME scroll, but that would not *encourage* reading the READ ME. Breaks save compatibility: No | |
